Quilts from the Goldstein Museum of Design and the Warden House Museum- Closed

Travel to the University of Minnesota’s Goldstein Museum of Design where we’ll be introduced to quilts, fabrics, clothing, and decorative items from the collection by Jean McElvain, assistant curator. The presentation will be followed by a tour of the gallery’s current exhibit. Then it’s a 20 minute ride to Stillwater, MN, a quaint town on the St. Croix River. Tours of the Warden House Museum, with 12 quilts from the collection brought out for our study will alternate with an opportunity to lunch in restaurants on the river and shop in the 6 antique malls located in this charming early Minnesota river town.

Minnesota Historical Society Quilts in Historical Locations
- Closed

We’ll begin our tour with a stop in Mendota, the earliest settlement in Minnesota and home of the fur trade. We will tour the Sibley House, built in 1836 and the Fairbault House, built in 1839. Quilts are on the beds and several quilts from the DAR Sibley House Collection will be out for our enjoyment. We continue to the next Minnesota settlement, St. Paul, where we will tour the beautiful Minnesota History Museum, with its delightful restaurant available to us. Alternating groups between Museum exhibits and the textile storage room allows space for each of us to closely examine the 10 quilts Linda McShannock, collections curator, has selected. Then on to the James J. Hill House, just 2 blocks away, for a tour of this Romanesque 36,000 square foot mansion, a monument to the “Guided Age” and the builder of the Great Northern Railroad. An exhibit of Contemporary Art Quilts, curated by Linda McShannock, introduces us to modern Minnesota quilters.

The Cox Collection and Star Power- Closed

We will see Highlights from the Patricia Cox Collection in three locations in Shakopee, MN, located on the Minnesota River. The Stans House, the Dakota Historical Society Museum, and the Eagle Creek Quilt Shop, located in a 1909 railroad station, will all display quilts from this collection. The quilt shop provides an opportunity to add to your fabric collection. A ride through the country around Lake Minnetonka, the largest of the city lakes, will bring us to the Minnetonka Center For the Arts where lunch will be available, and the exhibit Star Power can be seen. Star quilts, both antique and modern, will shine in this lovely gallery. Tours of the Art Center will be available.

Up Close and Personal- Closed

Travel to The Textile Center and tour this facility that champions all textile forms and serves as a meeting place for textile organizations in the Twin Cities. In the large lecture hall, four Minnesota collectors will talk about and show at least 12 quilts in a round robin arrangement. There will time for close study and conversation with each collector.
