Join AQSG for our Fall Study Day!

New England in the Fall is a beautiful sight. With visions of changing leaves and a crispness in the air, AQSG cordially invites you to our Fall Study Day. Our focus will be on the mills and fabrics of the New England region.

Dr. Stephen Mrozowski will start off our Study Day. He will discuss the lives of mill workers in Lowell, Massachusetts, as uncovered by his archaeological fieldwork at the Boott Mill boarding houses. Steve will also briefly orient attendees on the topic of historical archaeology and how, in the case of the Lowell workers, it furthers our understanding of the working-class.

Among the numerous mills in historical New England, there were those which spun thread or wove cloth, and those which dyed and printed cloth. Dr. Linda Welters will present her lecture on the printed fabrics of New England. Linda's work on the Rhode Island Quilt Documentation Project permitted her a front row seat to study the numerous early fabrics from mills in the region.

Susan J. Jerome will round out our Study Day with her presentation of Textiles 102. Debuting for the first time in Lincoln, Nebraska at AQSG's 2026 Seminar, Susan builds upon her popular Textiles 101 talk. As part of the program, registrants will receive a link to a prior recording of Textiles 101.
